Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a common surgical procedure that removes gum and/or bone to expose more of the tooth.

Crown Lengthening Procedure

Crown lengthening is conducted under local anesthetic and can be performed on a single tooth or multiple teeth. An incision is made with the laser and/or scalpel and gum tissue is removed. Sometimes bone will need to be removed and contoured for proper exposure and healing. This is to help expose more of the tooth structure to achieve aesthetic and/or restorative results. Healing generally takes about 4-6 weeks and a follow up is needed before the permanent restoration such as a crown can be placed.

Periodontal Therapy

Laser assisted periodontal therapy is a minimally invasive treatment option in removing inflamed gum tissue, bacteria, plaque, and hardened tartar above and below the gumline. Many times, it is used in conjunction with traditional scaling and root planing procedures. It allows the greatest opportunity for tissues to return to a healthy state with faster healing and improved results. When you have active periodontal disease there is detachment of the gums causing the formation of a dental pocket. The dental pocket has many bacteria that causes the disease to worsen over time. Added laser therapy kills the infective bacteria, allowing proper attachment of the gum to the tooth to occur.
